In 2011, teenager Alex Nelson's family takes in Robbie, the strange boy from across the street, while his mother is in the hospital. Robbie quickly gets very close to Alex's little brother Wyatt, and odd things start happening in the house - so Alex and her friend Ben use laptop webcams and the motion sensor of a game console to record what goes on at night.
